One bowl applesauce chia cookies for babies

This is a recipe for your clients who like to experiment with different types of flours. This recipe has no added sugar, stays moist, and is so simple to prepare. I got my 3 year old to make these cookies!

We made our own applesauce by coring the apples and placing them in our Instant Pot on manual for 5 minutes. Then we put them in the blender for instant homemade applesauce. Store-bought applesauce works perfectly as well!

A touch of maple syrup is used for sweetness - ensure to reinforce to clients not to substitute honey if these cookies are for babies 6 months - 1 year to reduce the risk of botulism.

Recipe

Yields 24 cookies

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup unsweetened applesauce

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 ¾ cups quick oats

  • ½ cup almond flour

  • ½ cup coconut flour

  • ½ cup coconut, shredded, unsweetened

  • 2 tbsp chia seeds

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350*F.

  2. Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl.

  3. Shape into cookies using a 1 tbsp measuring spoon

  4. Place on a covered baking sheet.

  5. Bake for 13 minutes or until slightly browned.

  6. Let cool and enjoy!

A snack with a nutritional punch

These cookies are excellent to suggest to clients as they are so versatile. Different flours can be used meaning different flavours and textures can be prepared. In addition to this, the cookies can easily be gluten-free (like this recipe!).

Beyond the flour, the addition of other nutrient-dense foods, such as chia seeds, increases the nutrition in every bite.
